Roberto Mancini felt nerves played a part as Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Napoli on their Champions League debut on Wednesday.
Aleksandar Kolarov secured a share of spoils for City in their Group A opener at the Etihad Stadium by cancelling out Edinson Cavani's 69th-minute breakaway goal with a fine free-kick five minutes later. Both sides could have claimed victory with City twice hitting the woodwork through Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero and Napoli's Ezequiel Lavezzi denied by the crossbar. Overall, Mancini was satisfied with his team's introduction to Europe's top competition and believes they will now feel more comfortable against Bayern Munich in a fortnight.
City spurned numerous other chances but often looked susceptible to the counter-attack. After scoring 15 goals in the process of winning their first four Premier League games this season, it was an unusually frustrating night for the hosts. Yet Mancini felt the result may give his side a reality check and he reacted with incredulity when it was suggested he felt his team had been playing like Barcelona. He said: "I was very happy when we went 1-0 up and very happy with the team in the second half. "I saw them create a lot of chances, although some were perhaps over-ambitious.
